TourMe is an audio tour APP for an Art Gallery, meticulously crafted to guide and enlighten all art enthusiasts seeking a comprehensive experience within the realm of art. The APP also aims to provide an inclusive art experience for individuals with visual impairments or low vision, embodying the essence of accessibility in the UI/UX industry.

TOURME - APP DESIGN

Rol - UI/UX Designer

Year - 2022 (1 month)

Client - Google UX Certificate

TourMe was developed within the framework of the Google UX Design Certificate course, emphasizing core principles of UI/UX design. In this project, the primary objective was to create a mobile application that provides museum and art gallery visitors with an intuitive audio guide, focusing on user-centric design and accessibility.

CONTEXT

  • The initial problem revolved around the lack of accessibility and engagement within museum and art gallery experiences. Visitors, including those with visual impairments or low vision, often encountered barriers that hindered their ability to fully engage with the art and the museum's offerings. The existing solutions did not provide an inclusive, seamless experience for all visitors.

  • How can we create an inclusive mobile application with a seamless user flow and intuitive navigation that ensures a rich and engaging experience for all museum and art gallery visitors, including those with visual impairments or low vision?

  • To address this challenge, we adopted a user-centric design approach. We conducted comprehensive research to understand the diverse needs of potential users, including those with visual impairments. This research informed the creation of an intuitive navigation system, inclusive features like screen reader compatibility, voice-guided navigation, and adjustable font sizes. Continuous testing and iterative improvements were crucial in fine-tuning the app's accessibility and usability. This approach ensured a seamless, engaging experience for all museum and art gallery visitors, regardless of their abilities.

CHALLENGES

As we embarked on the journey to develop TourMe, an inclusive art and museum guide app, we encountered and overcame three main challenges

  1. Accessibility Integration: One of the primary challenges was to seamlessly integrate accessibility features into the TourMe app. This included ensuring compatibility with screen readers, developing voice-guided navigation, and providing options for adjusting font sizes. The challenge lay in making these features intuitive and user-friendly for individuals with visual impairments while not compromising the experience for sighted users.

  2. User-Centric Design: Creating an inclusive and engaging user interface that caters to both visually impaired and sighted users presented a significant challenge. It required meticulous attention to detail in terms of layout, labeling, and interaction design to ensure an intuitive and enjoyable experience for all users.

  3. Continuous Iteration: Maintaining a commitment to continuous testing and iterative improvements was another challenge. It required a systematic approach to gather user feedback, analyze it, and implement necessary adjustments promptly. Balancing the evolving needs of different user groups while maintaining a consistent user experience posed a continuous challenge throughout the project.

During the Research phase, we undertook a comprehensive approach to gain valuable insights in the realm of UI/UX design. This process involved conducting in-depth interviews with users to understand their specific needs and preferences. Simultaneously, we delved into thorough market research to identify current trends and best practices within the UI/UX field.

UX RESEARCH

As a result of this meticulous research and analysis, we were able to define User Personas, which represent the archetypal profiles of our target audience. These personas encapsulate the characteristics, behaviors, and pain points of the users we aim to serve, providing a solid framework for tailoring our UI/UX solutions to meet their unique needs and expectations.

COMPETITIVE AUDIT

The audit revealed areas of opportunity where our competitors might be falling short. These insights have provided a roadmap for us to capitalize on market gaps, offering unique value propositions that can set us apart. By analyzing our competitors' successes and failures, we have been able to identify best practices and industry standards. This knowledge will inform our strategy, helping us to refine our product and service offerings.

Competitive Audit

Our journey from low-fidelity wireframes to the final prototype was a systematic approach to creating an intuitive and user-friendly product.

We began by crafting basic wireframes to outline the core structure and layout of our product, prioritizing functionality and initial feedback.

Transitioning to interactive prototypes, we refined the user interface, interactions, and overall experience through iterative testing and user feedback.

The journey culminated in the development of a high-fidelity prototype, closely resembling the final product. This phase ensured a realistic and engaging user experience, aligning with our user-centric design approach and strategic objectives.
